Here is a post that will provide you with the beginning steps on how to create a your profile on Facebook, as well as a winery fan page. Please rememeber that in order to create a winery page, you must be a member of Facebook.

Setting up an account:

- Go to Facebook You will see this:

- Enter all necessary pieces of information.
- This will create your profile. At this time you can add information such as: photos, political views, school history, work information, etc. You are in control on how much or how little info is viewable by others!

Setting up Fan Page:

- After you have created a profile: Create a Fan Page

- Once you reach this webpage, you will begin the process of setting up a winery page that will allow you to add content (news, images, videos, etc) and create a 'fan' following on Facebook.
- If you would like to learn more about the benefits of a fan page, please visit: Fan Page help

If you have any trouble getting started or need further social networking advice, please feel free to contact me!

Ryan,
My impression is that most of those who are on Facebook are young people. Are there a significant number of wine buyers there? Also, the number one factor in an individual buying wines is having tried it before. If this is true, how do you think Facebook enter into this picture?
Thanks,
Tom

Tom - glad to see that being on FB just made me younger 8-)

I would say that FB is another marketing tool, in terms of getting your winery name more recognized. If you have a good story to tell, then this can attract people to try your wines - the rest then is based on personal taste.

Thanks for the questions, Tom.

I'm in agreement with Steven - FB works best when used as an additional marketing channel to drive more potential buyers / brand advocates to your website and/or winery. In regards to the age demographic: depending on what credible source you look up, you will get different results. Generally speaking, yes, 18 to 24 year olds still make up most of the users on FB. But, that is always shifting towards a greater number of users between the ages of 24 to 54. I've found that no matter the age, if you network with the right people, groups, fan pages, etc on Facebook, you will come across a lot of potential wine buyers.

Hope this helps - feel free to contact me directly if you want to talk further: ryan@gsvineyards.com
