It's always interesting to see what set designers and directors/cinematographers can do with a location that you're familiar with. Besides the scene dressing they do for their purposes, the camera angles and point of view can radically alter one's p…

I live around Baltimore and it's fun to ID the little snippets of Baltimore that are spliced into movies, a highly edited reality, which is the essence of movies. The weirdest thing I've ever experienced was, as a student in Paris, seeing a movie in…

But alas there isn't a pleasing metric to this verse...
that pleases the European or the Japanese mind me thinks.

I prefer myself the Iambic pentameter of the Ancient Mariner
I'm sure the jester prefers the rubbery metrics of French verse
of course I may be wrong

Hi Andrew. Welcome to the start of our winery and wine fan social site. We are getting things going slowing and steadily and combining this in with our vinoshipper.com retail store - its all about helping wineries sell their wines and wine fans getting better choice from wineries they may otherwise not be able to find. Welcome and any suggestions you may have please share.

The Billionaire's Vinegar: The Mystery of the World's Most Expensive Bottle of Wine

Having recently drunk the Kindle Koolaid [Kindle is Amazon’s electronic book], I found an interesting book that came out last spring in Kindle format:

The Billionaire's Vinegar: The Mystery of the World's Most Expensive Bottle of Wine by Benjamin Wallace.

Tells the story of a major wine scam perpetrated in Europe involving wine supposedly bottled for Thomas Jefferson.

"With the gentlest treatment, the harsh, astringent wine grew softer. Longer exposure saw some of the hallmarks of ageing emerge – a more mature "nose", better balance and greater complexity.

The improvements reached their peak after 3 minutes at 600 volts per centimetre: this left the wine well balanced and harmonious, with a nose of an aged wine and, i… Continue

Japanese Robert Parker is... a cartoon character

http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/life_and_style/food_and_drink/wine/article4727390.ece

from the Times Online: "The sales records of Japan's largest wine merchants have been smashed because, in a single frame of comic, the hero has uttered a dreamy sigh over a 2006 New Zealand Riesling or closed his eyes in appreciation of a Saint-Aubin Premier Cru."

Giant, Super Expensive Grapes Invade Japan

From the Baltimore Sun: "A new variety of premium grapes debuted in Japan yesterday, with a single bunch fetching as much as $910. A Japanese hotel manager paid that amount, about $26 per grape, for a 1 1/2 -pound bunch of the Ruby Roman grapes to serve guests at an upscale hotel, officials said." The grapes grow up to an inch and a half in diameter....
