The cellar is one thing. The marketplace is another.
I leave the house early. My first appointment is at 10:15, but I’m ahead of schedule and three more potential clients have called to confirm ‘an interest’ in tasting our wine. Ten minutes later, I get two more calls. My day just got jammed up and I might not have enough wine to go around.
I get to the first meeting. I’m assembling my selling effects in the parking lot: cork-puller, technical sheets, business cards … when it hits me. I’d much… Continue

The 2009 vintage was a success in many ways for Leojami Wines. As early as September, and through fermentation, it appeared as though we had the conditions for a true vintage year. A vintage year = Good weather and growing conditions that produce great grapes and great wine.
The 2009 Viognier from Cedar Lane Vineyard in Arroyo Seco was picked on October 1. The grapes were whole-cluster pressed and fermented in neutral oak and stainless s… Continue

Here is a great article on DownEast.com
Last summer, Maine became the laughingstock of the oenosphere (that’s the wine world) when the state legislature enacted a law that required wine shops and specialty stores to hang curtains so that children wouldn’t be able to see wine tastings. Ironically, the law in question, LD 498, was actually intended to liberalize Maine’s laws regarding complimentary tastings of distilled spirits, win… Continue

Sorry this is not about Freeing the Grape Doctor. This is about Freeing the Grapes in Maryland.
Free the grapes is a national grass roots effort to allow the direct shipment of wine to consumers. This would allow wineries and retailers to ship to consumers. That alcoholic priviledge is not shared equally by all US citizens. The 21 Amendment did end Prohibition, but it allows states to regulate within their borders. Consequently, forced 3-tier distribution systems and other conditions have been… Continue

"At issue was the federal government's appellation system, overseen by the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau, a tiny agency within the Treasury Department. The agency has established more than 190 American Viticultural Areas, or AVAs, since 1978. The Napa Valley has 14 AVAs, but Calistoga had yet to earn the distinction despite its local regard as one of the most viticulturally significant areas in the valley.
The bureau decided to grant Calistoga its own AVA last week. The formal notice… Continue

"Wine lovers are planning an all-out lobbying offensive in the General Assembly next year for passage of a law that would allow merchants and wineries to ship directly to Maryland consumers.
The issue has fermented for years in the legislature where a bill has been bottled up in committee, but wine producers and connoisseurs see an opportunity in the next session that begins in January. They say they have more funding and support, and they hope to draw votes by casting the bill as a pro-consume… Continue

So I was at a Halloween party at the weekend and I found this unusual contraption on the table, it turned out to be a WineFall or wine aerator. I have seen and heard of such devices before and never tested to see if there is a noticeable difference in the wine. Well it was a party and so what better time to try it out.
Now talking to Tom one of the inventors of the… Continue

".....while the online world has clearly changed the way in which wine information is disseminated, the notion that it might fundamentally alter the critic-consumer dynamic was, until recently, mostly a matter of prognostication—everyone agreed it was bound to happen, but at some indeterminate point in the future."
