My first taste of an Iowa wine........

I recently purchased my first Iowa wine and decided to share it with close friends this weekend - I know "Iowa wine" I hear you say - yes as you hear they make wine in every State now. If the laws were a little less draconian you may one day have the opportunity to try them all - however, we are over at VinoShipper giving you the opportunity to try more than your average store, but less of that.

So with some trepidation we poured the wine, took our first sip, looked at each other and took another. As I have said before I can not give you all the fancy terms about wines so suffice it to say - it was okay, different from what I have had before and I have had many wines that I have not liked before. The only thing that stood out for me was it had a slightly sour initial taste - this did not put me off in fact it intrigued me and now I want to try another from Iowa as I have nothing to compare with.

As for my friends - well they are still my friends and I think they would try other Iowa wines as well.

So if you have tried Iowa wine, let me know what your thoughts were, if you have not, then it is worth a try.

Comment by Steven Patton on June 12, 2008 at 7:47am: My guess is that the "sour" taste that you experienced is the high acidity inherent to Cold Climate wines. As you probably know, acidity is what gives lemonade it's puckerability. Northern grapes start with an incredibly high acidity which is reflected in the wine. It's not necessarily considered a flaw, just a difference. Something unique about Northern wines.
